The Aerodynamics laboratory houses subsonic wind tunnels utilized to conduct lab experiments in aerodynamics, propulsion, and fundamental studies in fluid mechanics. The facility includes advanced instrumentation and flow diagnostics to allow students unique insight into the experimental models and flow regimes that are investigated. The objective of this lab is to teach students, the importance of physics through involvement in experiments. This lab helps to have knowledge of the world due to constant interplay between observations and hypothesis, experiment and theory in physics. Students will gain knowledge in various areas of physics so as to have real time applications in all engineering streams.
The Aerospace Propulsion lab can be used for development of advanced combustion and propulsion systems as well as for fundamental R&D in gaseous and liquid fuel systems. The objective of this lab is to make student to get familiarize with basics of propulsion, working principles of reciprocating engines, flash and fire point, and kinematic and dynamic viscosity of fuel. Knowledge about the mechanical efficiency of axial compressor, work, power, thrust requirements of a gas turbine and efficiency and performance diagrams. Calculation of thermal, propulsive efficiency of gas turbine, work output of axial turbine and nozzle performance. Understand the calorific values of different fuels, coefficient of convection heat transfer, and calculation of propeller efficiency.
The objective of conducting the aircraft structures laboratory is to make the students understand the various principles involved in the aircraft structures. The laboratory is equipped with cantilever beam setup, wagner beam, vibration of beam and photoelastic technic. Student will be able to know the load distribution in the structural members and causes for deformation produced in a structural component. This will immensely help the students to enrich their knowledge in the design of various aircraft structural components, namely, wing fuselage, landing gear, control surfaces etc. In addition, the structures laboratory provides facilities for testing of materials. The structures laboratory is used to enhance the learning experience of undergraduate students by encouraging them to undertake projects.
This lab is established to teach students and give knowledge about the simulation of aircraft performance in the flight simulator and access the parameters that are affecting the performance of the flight with different boundary conditions. This lab also enables the students to write the MATLAB scripts for the analysis of problems like evaluating equations of motion with one DOF, two DOF and three DOF and also the dynamics of the aircraft. This laboratory also enhances experimental skills to the students to assess the performance and static stability of an aircraft.
